A representative from Joint Commission Resources will be arriving on Guam to lead a one-day seminar for the Guam Memorial Hospital. The organization is an affiliate of the Joint Commission, which evaluates/accredits nearly 15,000 healthcare organizations and programs throughout the United States.The entire seminar, including travel and other costs associated will be completely funded by the Guam Healthcare and Hospital Development Foundation. .
Authorities investigate health plan covering 25,000 Missourians
WellCare Health Plans, which insures more than 7,600 Missourians under Medicaid through an affiliate, has come under intense scrutiny following an Oct. 24 raid on its Tampa, Fla., headquarters by federal and state authorities. WellCare has a total of about 2.3 million Medicare and Medicaid enrollees across the nation. Medicare programs serve the elderly, and Medicaid serves mainly low-income Americans. WellCare also serves about 18,000 Missourians through its Medicare prescription drug plan, and a small number of Missourians -- about 50 -- through its WellCare Medicare Advantage Plan, according to Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services acting branch manager Kane Kunard. WellCare's Harmony Health Plan Inc. division's Medicaid contract with the state of Missouri runs through June 30, 2008.
